Going There in Kansas City: How We Eat

We seem to be living through a moment for American food. More supermarkets, restaurants and many consumers are moving toward sustainable, nutritious ingredients, with fewer processed and more fresh foods on offer. At the same time, a large number of Americans feel that they don’t have a place at this table. They see themselves as priced out of good food, or live in neighborhoods with fewer choices. But there are those who are working to bring the best of American food options to more people, many of them in Kansas City.

Join Michel Martin, weekend host of NPR's All Things Considered, for "How We Eat.” In this two-part event, she’ll be joined onstage by author Ted Genoways, Prairie Birthday Farm owner Linda Hezel, Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst, Hybrid farmer Chris Boeckmann, and President of the Land Institute, Wes Jackson. Part two will feature Chef and Owner of Magnolia’s Contemporary Southern Bistro, Shanita McAfee Bryant, Switzer/Kansas State University Agriculture Camp Director JohnElla Holmes, and Missouri Department of Conservation Educator James Worley, followed by performances with Natasha Ria El-Scari and Making Movies.

Reception/tasting table curated by CultivateKC.

It’s a live event with dynamic conversation and performance, centered around questions about what makes food good –for individuals, for the community, for the environment—and who gets to take part.

April 5th, 2016 7-8:30PM at the Gem Theatre, 1615 East 18th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108.
